KILC #000

↟↟↟

A book designed for KILC (Karuizawa International Library Club), a development project in Karuizawa dedicated to nurturing and passing on culture, knowledge, and creativity through facilities such as a library, clubhouse, and education centre.

Karuizawa, long known as a cosmopolitan enclave, has played a defining role in shaping Japan’s retreat culture. Surrounded by abundant nature and dense, towering forests, it has drawn cultural figures from Tokyo for generations—offering a place for quiet reflection, writing, and creation.

KILC seeks to carry forward this legacy by providing an intellectual retreat that fosters creative thought. This publication brings together the philosophy and vision behind the making of KILC.

An understated aesthetic conveys quiet confidence, while carefully considered details reflect craftsmanship and establish a distinct identity. Heavyweight typography set within generous negative space creates a sense of solidity, echoing the strong foundation of the KILC community.

The vertically elongated format evokes the feeling of being among trees—enclosed, immersive, and introspective.
